As the culture around us shifts and large renovations are coming down to our political landscape, it remains important to be not just aware of these changes, but be active about it. The consequences and circumstances of our changing country may not directly affect you yet, but regardless, it will have an impact on everybody in one way or another. It’s important to advocate your doctrine in light of these political misfortunes, to negate and disagree with them.
Advocacy propagates your voice, it gives ammunition and more power to whatever you’re trying to voice publicly. It’s important to allow your thoughts and opinions to be heard, especially if they’re being challenged or dismissed, because otherwise your principles may become extinct if you let them remain dormant. Your advocacy empowers a fight that may need to be won. There are numerous ways you can advocate, you can sign petitions on Change.org, join rallies and protests, like the Hands Off protests a while back, and the Fight Oligarchy tour that’s been going around America. You can also volunteer at organizations you support, like the International Medical Relief organization, headquartered in Colorado. You can also donate money to causes you support, and if you can’t do any of that, you can still engage in political discussions and voice your opinion. In all of these aforementioned examples, regardless of how you approach them, the fundamental remains of you publicly supporting your doctrine and by extension, giving it fuel. Times are uncertain, and that means people are being impacted and there’s stuff that needs to be done about it. Advocacy works, on Change.org, there was a petition about an indecent exposure law in Colorado, and the law was later revised. During the Oligarchy Tour at the Denver capitol building, over 30,000 people gathered, showing community and public dissent against what they disagree with. The Black Lives Matter Foundation raised over 90 million dollars in 2020 alone for Black Americans, from the culture movement Black Lives that stemmed from advocacy and people making their opinions heard in the form of a donation. As so many headlines are glazed in skittish and scary shifts, it’s important to voice your opposition in a multitude of ways, it’ll always be more worthwhile than staying dull politically.
