What’s better than some great music, a beautiful sunset, and an icy treat?
Last night, on September 3, crowds streamed into the LHS theatre, filling the seats and bustling with excitement. For years, LHS has hosted our annual Ice Cream Social, celebrating the Performing Arts and gifting the audience with a sneak-peak of what is to come. It is an event that is looked forward to, and not just because of the ice cream (although that is certainly a factor). But also because you can always count on the Performing Arts Department to put on a show, and a good one at that.

This year’s Ice Cream Social did not disappoint. The Thespian Officers, decked out in wacky hats and crazy feather boas, introduced the different groups in style. One of these officers, Reagan O’Connor, is also a State Thespian Officer! This means that she was selected to help set up and organize the State Thespian Conference. As such, she was adorned with a fabulous State Thespian Officer sash, and a crown to go with it.

The indoor showcase featured an elegant Russian piece, performed by the Orchestra, two songs (one acapella, one accompanied by the one-and-only Ms. Aimee Taylor on the piano) by the LHS Singers, and a groovy performance by the Jazz Ensemble that paraded down the aisles. Briefly, theatre director Ms. Talia Liccardello strutted onto the stage in her equally fabulous costume to inform the audience about our upcoming play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, on October 9-11. Representatives from Encore, our Performing Arts parent sponsor group, also made an appearance. If you or an adult you know want to volunteer and help out, make sure to contact Ms. L, or check out the Encore website.
Afterwards, the audience moved outside for the Pride of Littleton Marching Band performance, titled Broken Reflections. Illuminated by a golden sunset that reflected off of the instruments, it was a memorable performance that hints at a successful season to come.
All in all, the Ice Cream Social was a fantastic night. We can’t wait to see what else the Performing Arts have in store for us this year!
