The Lions Classic – Cross Country

Varsity boys starting the Lions Classic race.

Today, the Littleton Lions hosted their annual Lions Classic at DeKoevend Park. We saw outstanding performances from the whole team and overall it was a fantastic meet with good competition and a challenging course. “It felt brutal,” said Junior Varsity runner Valen Orrick.

We had a huge victory from Varsity runner Alex Herrera, placing first for the team. Herrera said, “It was unexpected. We had our lead runner drop out before the race, which shifted me to spot number two. I went out way too fast on the first mile, but I was able to recover pretty well in that second mile and hold steady.”

When asked about what kept her going through the race Herrera stated, ” Today is my grandma’s birthday, and she’s here to watch me, so I felt like I had to do it for her in a weird way.”

When talking to Varsity runner Tyler West, he stated, “The race was very hot and very unenjoyable in the moment, but it was fun when I finished.” Tyler had a very successful race. “I broke 18 minutes,” he said, which is an awesome accomplishment.

We are so proud of all of the performances today from the Cross Country team. Congratulations to everyone on their victories.
