On December 10th and 11th, LHS Boys and Girls Wrestling completed their first meets of the season. On December 10th, the boys and girls competed at Ralston Valley High School, and only the girls competed on December 11th at Standley Lake High School. The girls’ competition was a tri-meet against Standley Lake and Wheat Ridge. Despite the hard work of the Lions, both meets ended in losses.
“We’re in the early parts of the season, so there’s still a lot of development that needs to be done. But we’re pleased with what we saw this first week,” said Head Coach Ronnie Kois.
The best performers from both teams were senior Christian May, senior Daniel Tavares, and junior Noah Hanson for the boys, and senior Mimi Boone and sophomore Wren Freeman on the girls side.
“It went really good! I’m 3 and 0 right now, and I’m wrestling a different weight class this year. So, I’m just trying to find my feet. We’re just learning to get better,” said Freeman.
When asked about the upcoming season, May answered, “I’m feeling pretty confident. We have a couple of strong guys and a couple of seniors who are looking pretty good. We have some great chances at qualifying for State.”
As a final note, Kois encourages LHS students to attend wrestling meets, to support their fellow classmates and learn more about the sport.
