On October 24th, 2025, the movie Regretting You was released, an adaptation of the book by Colleen Hoover. Over the past 2 years, Colleen Hoover has had 2 movies adapted from her books, including Regretting You, with more adaptations coming out this year.
The film came with very high expectations from long time readers. While the movie shows the general storyline and emotional themes of the book, it struggles to fully show the depth of the novel on the big screen.
There are many opinions about this movie, from the plot flow to how well it represents the author’s original work.
The cast is one of the strongest aspects of the movie. There are many amazing actors that audiences love to see on the big screen, including main actors McKenna Grace, Mason Thames, Dave Franco, and Clancy Brown. The execution of their characters is amazing, and it is what makes the movie tolerable.
For many, the plot may fall short. This is such a rom com movie, the type of movie that’s perfect for young teens. However, this type of movie doesn’t connect with the majority of other viewers.
Yes, it is a cute movie of love and tragedy, although at times it seemed rushed. The plot with the mom and daughter not having much communication seems almost unreal, and it is executed and explained a lot better in the book.
The ending of the movie felt so rushed. The heart-to-heart between the mom and daughter didn’t have the emotional depth that it did in the book. While the movie does explore themes of love, loss, and family, it does not take the time to fully let these moments resonate with the audience.
But all that said, it’s not the worst movie. It’s actually good in my personal opinion, but again not a very deep movie. If you need something to watch when you’re bored at home, I think this is the movie for you, if you have some time to kill.
