25 years ago today, the United States of America faced one of it’s most tragic events in the country’s history.
A day that started off like any other, however that morning everything would change. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, Four Airplanes carrying dozens of passengers would be hijacked and put off course. Two of these planes would hit the World Trade Center: the first one into the 93rd-99th Floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower and only 43 minutes later, a second plane would hit the 77th-85th floors of the World Trade Center’s South Tower, both of these buildings eventually collapsed and these sequences would result in the first few hundred deaths of that day.
The two other planes would crash, the first would crash into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and then the final plane would crash in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
These tragedies took the lives of 2,507 civilians, 343 Firefighters, 71 Law Enforcement Officers, 55 military personnel, and 8 EMS responders. Although, people are still perishing from 9/11 related illnesses 25 years later.
Today, hundreds of people came together at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison to participate in the annual 9/11 Stair Climb. Each attendee must climb the equivalent of 110 stories, which done by going up and down the amphitheatre a total of nine times. Some firefighters chose to wear all of their firefighting PPE while climbing, which adds 80 pounds. This event brought many first responders together from all different agencies across the country and even across the world.
All of the proceeds that were made from this stair climb are going to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the FDNY (Fire Department of New York) counseling services.
This climb began at Red Rocks in 2009, and since then the attendance numbers have gone up to 400 to over 4,000 participants in 2026!
Let this day be a day of remembrance for all the lives lost in these devastating tragedies.
