This past Monday was the annual Emmy Awards, highlighting the best of the best in acting and television. Here’s what the academy is adding to their watchlist from the past year.
Outstanding Drama Series: The Pitt
“The Pitt” follows the lives of people working in an emergency room in Pittsburgh. The season is one shift spread out over all of the episodes, making it an interesting watch. The main character, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavtich, played by Noah Wyle, is a trauma physician who helps the patients throughout the episodes, revisiting them throughout the episodes, like in a real shift. Outstanding Comedy Series: Widow’s Bay
“Widow’s Bay” is about an island off the coast of New England where mysterious things start happening. It stars the mayor of the island named Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, trying his best to bring tourism to the little island, while also trying to figure out if the island is cursed. Television Movie: Remarkably Bright Creatures
This Netflix original, “Remarkably Bright Creatures” follows an elderly woman who works at the local aquarium during the night shift as a cleaner. When a new man comes to town in search of his family, he ends up working the night shift with Tova (Sally Field) bonding with him and an octopus that lives there. Together, they figure out a mystery, bringing joy back into their lives, strengthening their relationships along the way. Available to watch on Netflix.
Outstanding Reality Competition Program: The Traitors
Winning 7 awards overall, “The Traitors” is a reality show where celebrity contestants play a game where they hope to survive the night. In the game, the majority of players are called faithful who are trying their best to win money from challenges and trying to unmask the traitors who play alongside them. There are also a few traitors who kill faithful every night and try to maintain the trust of the other players. With suspense and twists in every episode, the lingering question of who will win is questioned through the whole season.
