It takes a lot of time, money, and energy to write and produce a song, and you can only hope it makes it to the charts or you get that phone call from a major record label. It is frustrating to see all of these young and old artists put their heart and soul into making music just to have a fully AI-generated band pass them on the charts.
There have been numerous instances where this is unfortunately the case. In November 2025, an artist by the name of Breaking Rust had a song called “Walk my Walk” that ended up reaching #1 on the Billboard digital charts. However, the catch is that Breaking Rust is a 100% AI generated artist.
Rick Beato, a well-known Georgia-based songwriter, producer, and YouTuber, spoke out about Breaking Rust and was quite frankly very frustrated about it, as he mentions in his video. “It should say an AI verified artist instead, so people know what they are listening to.” Beato says.
Why is AI in the music industry bad?
AI in the music industry can result in loss of creativity, as you’re simply just telling a computer what to do instead of taking time to learn the material and make your own sound. This applies to both songwriting and instrumental making. Although the process is much easier, at end of the day AI-produced music will never live up to real music production and writing.
I believe that if more and more AI music is released and keeps going viral, it will hurt the music industry in all genres in some way or another.
