Choir ensembles do not fail to amaze during 2023 Pops Concert

This past Friday, all choir groups apart of the LHS community participated in their final concert of the school year known as the “Pops Concert”. For this concert, all ensembles performed songs from all areas of pop culture. From Taylor Swift to Sweeny Todd to the muppets, this concert had it all.

Many themes appeared during the concert; ideas of love, and heartbreak were commonplace. However, fantastical endeavors like that of the muppets and Star Wars were also shown.

Junior Eliza Neff and senior Bella Houck perform “Pretty Women”

This was not your typical choir concert in which a bunch of kids in robes stand on risers and sing hymns and other traditional choir pieces. This concert was filled with a myriad of different props, costumes, and choreography that wouldn’t typically be a part of a choir concert. From guitars to taxis to lightsabers and glowsticks, there was never a dull moment during the concert.

Some standout performances include junior Eliza Neff’s and senior Bella Houck’s rendition of “Pretty Women” from Sweeny Todd, senior Andrea Rojas’ performance of “Como la flor” by Selena, and junior Ben Davis’ version of  “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.

The unusual nature of this choir concert isn’t the only aspect that made this concert special. The ending was occupied with the senior slideshow, honoring the choir members in the class of 2023. This emotionally raw moment was then followed by all choir members, including former LHS choir alumni performing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

This year’s choir Pops Concert was endearingly unusual and was quite a spectacle for all those who came to see the performances.
