Dr Velázquez announces his departure from the school faculty

This past Friday, the LHS family and staff received an important message in which our current principal, Dr. Thomas James Velázquez, announced that he will not be returning as principal after this school year. Velázquez expressed that this decision was made after thoughtful reflection, and that he is very grateful for having the opportunity to serve the LHS community.

During his two and a half years as our principal, the school achieved significant progress, including an increase in the graduation rate to 88.9 percent, which is the highest in seven years. Additionally, academic achievement improved with the expansion of college courses, such as AP, IB, or Concurrent enrollment. Lastly, the attendance rate was significantly increased, and this is because of strong relationships with the families and the community.

Velázquez said that he will continue to commit to the students and staff for the remainder of the school year. He also expressed big gratitude to the school’s families that supported him.
