On Tuesday, September 21, the girls’ volleyball team rang in homecoming week with a win in three sets against Englewood High School. After a win against George Washington last week and a tournament on Saturday, the girls were excited going into homecoming week and hopeful for a win.

“We were super excited because we knew we were going to have a crowd, and because of COVID we didn’t have that. We were also super excited because it was our homecoming game. With Englewood, we knew what we were gonna get into, we knew kinda what their play was like, so we based our play around that. We did really well with that, we placed our hits so that they couldn’t get them and we knew exactly where to place them to beat this team,” said junior Libby Bubelis.

After tonight’s game, their record is now 6-4, and although they have more wins than losses, the girls agree there is still work to be done for a successful season.

“We have a lot of work to do but I feel like our team really wants to do the best we can so we’re gonna try our hardest to get the job done,” said senior Ava El-Jammal.

This win counts towards the team’s League record, which will eventually lead them to bigger competitions and tournaments towards the end of the season.

The crowd definitely helped the atmosphere and energy of the game stay high for the Lions, as there were lots of students cheering continuously and dressed in white for the white-out theme.

This team’s dynamic shone through in this game and the Lions proved themselves to be a force not to be reckoned with. For the rest of the season, we can hope to see improvements and hard work on the court from everyone on this team.

Their next home game is Tuesday, October 5th against Conifer at 6:30 PM.
