Homecoming soccer and football games bring out intense school spirit

The boys varsity soccer team before the game started.

This past Friday, September 24th were too big homecoming games for Lions’ sports. We started the night off with the homecoming soccer game followed by the homecoming football game. The soccer game resulted in a win, while the football game ended with a last minute loss in the fourth quarter. Boys varsity soccer played Dakota Ridge and the football team played Sand Creek.

Both of the games had large student sections of fans cheering on the lions.  Carter Griffin, number 22 on boys varsity soccer, was a fan favorite getting lots of cheering from the crowd. When I talked to Griffin after the game he said he loved the support he was receiving from his friends and the crowd.

The soccer team took the win against Dakota Ride scoring 5 goals against their 3. Three of the points were scored in the first half while the remaining two were scored in the second. These goals were made by Chase Shepherd (Sr.), Devin Shepherd (Fr.), Ollie Garnica (Sr. Captain), and Skye Fanch (Jr.). The boys took a great win for their homecoming game.

At the football game, the crowd cheers and support continued on. At halftime the Lions were leading 24-8. In the second half, the Lions only scored a field goal (3 points) and Sand Creek made a comeback beating the Lions by 9 points. The final score of the game was 36-27. Even though we lost, we played a competitive game and the school spirit was still there.

The band and poms performed at halftime of the game along with the announcement of homecoming royalty. For freshman the royalty was Max Fendrich and Kadence Babb. The sophomores had Ben Davis and Audrey Thomson. For the junior class the representatives were Jacob Held and Catherine Dutmer.

The soccer game and the football game were great games to put an end to the homecoming week.
