This past Saturday, our baseball team had their Senior Day, and in a nail-biting game against D’Evelyn, LHS went into extra innings after tying up the game 6-6. After 9 total innings, the final score was 6-9, a win for D’Evelyn but an impressive fight from LHS.
Before the game, seniors were commemorated with speeches from their family members. Each senior walked on the field with their family and a baseball. The ceremony ended with a long-time tradition, where the seniors played catch with their fathers.

With this being one of the final games, and the one to honor seniors, it was a special one for our seniors to look back on as they reflect on their time on the team.
Senior Wyatt Alexander, who has played every year while he’s been at LHS, said the most memorable part of his season was “playing with the four seniors that I’ve played with for the last four years”. Alexander will remember his time spent playing for LHS, and wishes luck to his team in the upcoming years. In regards to his own performance on Saturday, Alexander said a highlight was “definitely the defense, definitely keeping the other team on their toes”.
Senior Lucas Calonder reflects on his favorite part about LHS baseball. “I really love the kids,” he says, “We have a great community, and we’re not the best (regarding record) so it’s good for lower skill level players to swing up.” Calonder hopes that he has made an impact on the program, and he will miss his team. On Saturday, Calonder had a great game, with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Senior Evan “Doug” Siler had an extremely impressive game, pitching 6 innings straight with only 2 walks. He ended his high school baseball career strong, and the entire stadium cheered after he reached 107 pitches and was pulled off the field.
