On Thursday October 15, LHS Boys Tennis had two Doubles teams compete at State! After a stellar performance at Regionals where the Lions finished 3rd overall, the No. 2 Doubles team of juniors Nate Roybal and Kaden McPherson and the No. 3 Doubles team of junior Sebastian Burri and sophomore Emerson Montoya both finished 2nd at regionals, qualifying both teams.
“I’m incredibly excited. Only my partner and I and another Doubles team were able to qualify. It’s pretty great being able to make it and represent our school,” said Burri when asked how it felt to qualify for State.
The excitement was there for both groups, as Roybal also stated how happy he and his teammate were.
When asked about his goals going into the match, Roybal said “I mean, of course, we hope to win it. But more to represent Littleton, play well, be good sportsmen, all that stuff.”
At Tennis State, Roybal and McPherson lost in the first round, but it was a close match with it having to go to three sets. The team that they lost to from Evergreen ended up making it to the semifinals.
“I want to just focus on my attitude. I should be there to have fun. Also to win, but just I should be there to enjoy it, you know, be proud of, like, our school and what we’ve accomplished over the whole season.” said Burri on what he wanted to focus on going into the match.
Burri and Montoya also lost in the first round to another Evergreen team in a very close match that went to three sets.
Overall, it is exciting that these two doubles teams got to play at state! The entire boys tennis team had a lot of accomplishments this season, and despite these losses, this was a great way to round out the season.
