LHS Flag Football takes home an ice cold win against George Washington

On October 14th, Lions Flag Football went to the first round of the playoffs against George Washington. It was a competitive game between the Patriots and the Lions, and the conditions were also brutal, with an average temperature of 47 degrees Fahrenheit, but the Lions proudly took home a 14- 8 win! The Patriots had some strong defense and fast players, but the Lions were able to stand their ground for the whole game.

During the first 2.5 quarters of the game, the Lions were up 14 to 0, but in the last quarter and a half, the Patriots started to make a strong comeback, slowly but surely making their way to their side of the field. Even though the Lions were cold and tired, they kept their heads up, were very responsive to the feedback of their coaches, and showed some great teamwork. Some key players of this game include senior Ceirra Wilburn and senior Yara Soto, who continuously fought for the ball and pulled flags where they could, overall making plays where it really counted.

Coach Braband has been foundational in building and supporting Flag Football over the past 3 years and is very proud of this team and the season they have had. When asking Braband about her favorite part of Littleton Flag Football, she says, “I love the energy that the girls bring, and the competitive nature of the game, and how it just brings out the best in these athletes, but also helps them learn more about how they need to overcome difficult times, especially resetting.”

Braband also mentioned how important it is for students to learn to cope with and manage stress in a safe, controlled environment that prepares them for their futures “An additional option for girls to have another sport is amazing. You know, it’s nice to have that option for girls who may not want to be part of cross-country or volleyball; they have something, another opportunity to play,” said Braband when asked about the impact flag football has made, as it’s a relatively new sport option for female athletes.

Overall, it seems like Flag Football has made a big impact in the Littleton community and we are so proud of the season they have had this year.
