Two LHS seniors, Luca Rodriguez and Noah Orcutt, received the Boettcher scholarship this year.  The Boettcher scholarship is awarded to 50 Colorado students a year, with only 3% of applicants receiving it.  The Boettcher Foundation gives $20,000 per year to their scholars for all four years of undergraduate college in Colorado.

Orcutt plans on attending the Colorado School of Mines to study mechanical engineering.  After growing up in Colorado, he’s excited about being able to be a recipient of the scholarship.

“It’s something that I’ve wanted for a long time now.  Just knowing about it, living in Colorado.  It was a pretty lengthy application process so it feels super rewarding to see the process through.  I’m excited to join a community of people that are making a pretty big difference in Colorado,” said Orcutt.

Rodriguez plans on attending Colorado College.  He was extremely excited to receive the scholarship, as it makes college possible for his family.

“It’s incredible. I mean it’s super exciting, and it makes college possible for my family. It’s just the best,” said Rodriguez.

As advice to other students, Rodriguez advises others to apply to all kinds of scholarships. “You never know what can happen, and I’m just really thankful that I was able to make it to this point, because it’s really life changing.”
