This year, the spring musical for LHS was a humorous adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” and it was one to remember!
The story follows the life of Prince Dauntless (played by senior Emmett Moxon) as he looks for a suitable princess, but his mother, Queen Aggravain (played by senior Kaylie Droy) and the Wizard (played by sophomore Liam Clune) come up with ridiculously impossible tests that the suitors have to pass in order to reach the standards of being a princess. Due to these tests, no one ever passes them, and the prince is desperate for a maiden that he could marry.

The village is also desperate, because when the prince finds a suitor the other “ladies in waiting” are allowed to marry. One specific Lady, Lady Larkin (played by senior Victoria Chang Nunley), finds that she is pregnant, and must get married to Sir Harry (played by sophomore Levi Bechtold) before anyone finds out about it. To solve this problem, Sir Harry goes off and finds a suitable princess for Prince Dauntless, and comes across Princess Winnifred (played by senior Amy Olaechea).
The musical is enjoyable for all ages, filled with humor, drama, and suspense. From the sneaky schemes of King Sextimus (junior Alek Garcia), the Jester (freshman Zev Lemire), and the Minstrel (freshman Ben Fu) to the ups and downs between Lady Larkin and Sir Harry, the production keeps viewers engaged and excited at all times!
With bright, elaborate costumes and wigs, be prepared to get transported into medieval-like times, with brick corridors, pantaloons, and thrones. The backdrops of each scene were well depicted, with arched windows and textured stone.
Will Princess Winnifred pass Queen Aggravain’s test? Find out Thursday or Friday 7:00pm, or Saturday at 1:00pm or 6:00pm, in the Littleton High School Theater! Tickets are $10 for LHS students and $15 for general admission. Get yours today!
