No Kings Day: October 18th

On October 18th, No Kings Day rose across the United States, from California and Oregon to Colorado, from Texas to the outstretches of rural areas. It attracted nearly 7 million people, standing as a demonstration of the people’s voice and a declaration against Donald Trump’s presidency.

The waving flags, inflatable costumes, and signs displaying various messages against the actions being taken in our country flooded the streets. Protesters of all types were seen, from little kids to very old Americans, to the various different groups of America’s diaspora, both rural and urban. Some were decked in colorful outfits showing their beliefs, and others were holding up banners and objects that represented their feelings and protests. These aspects ranged from the Statue of Liberty to a long length of the United States Constitution, with “We the People” boldly seen.

From ICE to the government shutdown, October 18th was a show of uniform activism against Trump’s policies and the undertakings of our country. Coming from the people who make up the United States, who have to go through suffering times as a result, it was particularly impactful.

No Kings Day isn’t a one-time protest either; it’s an organized movement that’s occurred earlier in this year and will most likely happen again. It even occurs globally, so take a look at the No Kings Day website if you want to participate in it.
