Staff Editorial - Hope for a future principal

Our hopes for the future principal – Staff Editorial

As of this Friday, there is a new job application available here at LHS. With Dr. Velasquez’s resignation this year, there have been a lot of questions brought up about the future of our school. Who will the new principal be? What will they focus on? What new ideas will they bring in, and what old aspects of LHS will they keep? The future is still murky. For now, the Lions Roar Now has compiled a collection of our ideas regarding what we would like to have in the new principal.

Valuing all LHS Programs

Littleton High school is known widely for its variety of activities, with students being involved all across the performing arts, visual arts, and/or athletics. Every single one of these activities, along with our Unified, IB, and STEM programs, deserve to be treated with equal respect and attention. These aspects of our school should continue to be valued as a fundamental part of a well-rounded education.

Getting to know students

From what we have gathered, students want to go to school more when they feel like the administration recognizes them on a personal level. It creates a sense of community and belonging that is important to students’ wellbeing, and a simple step towards this goal is learning the names of students and getting to know them. This includes people from all walks of life.

Organizing and planning

A well-organized leader is essential to the function of a school. Being able to plan ahead and coordinate effectively involves communication and attention to detail. This is one of our biggest hopes for a principal!

Listening to staff, parents and students

The voices of all Littleton Lions are important to take into consideration. Being able to take constructive criticism and apply it is an extremely valuable skill to have. Trying new things can be highly beneficial in case the newer change is better and finds success, but sometimes it can be useful to take a step back, listen to those around us, and adjust accordingly.

Understanding the diversity and culture of LHS

LHS is home to all sorts of students from completely different cultural, economic, social, and academic backgrounds, but we are all Lions. A principal who can get along with all of these types of groups, especially minorities, is ideal for us here at Littleton High School. Because of this, being bilingual is a bonus (but not a requirement).

Understanding technology

Scheduling is extremely important to school life, and it would be very valuable to have a future principal who understands the systems and technology used at LHS in order to maximize efficiency.

Having high, creative energy

We would love lots of ideas! They don’t always have to be flawless, but we will never know until we try. Someone who is excited about education and making positive, meaningful improvements could make waves in our LHS community.

As a whole, there are a lot of improvements that can be made, as well as many things that make LHS amazing that we should keep. Although we never expect perfection, we are still excited and curious to see what the 2026-2027 school year may bring with this new hiring process.
