The Littleton High School Poms team has made a school record for their second place win at the League Tournament this past Monday! They worked so hard to advance in their overall score from last year, and LHS is so proud of them. Junior Morgan Prince stated, “Our routine is super difficult, and so keeping high energy up all the way through when people are tired, I think we did a great job with that. We’ve been working really hard on precision in formations, and I thought we did a great job with that as well, and that helped everything look really cohesive.”
Whenever the girls were interviewed, they all had very different team goals for what they wished to achieve this year in comparison to past ones. “Our team goal is to continue to improve. So last year we were third at League and we were ninth at State, and so this year our goal was to never go backwards. So we moved up a place, from third to second,” says coach DeAnna Koepke. “I think that we wanted to just make sure that we were all together on the whole routine, because it hasn’t been like that most of the season, and then we hit that, so it was good,” says Junior Morgan Prince. Though they had different perspectives on the topic, all that means is that they are determined to improve in many areas!
The individual goals, however, were pretty similar. They all seemed to want to improve on a physical step that they had trouble with in the past. “I was really hoping to get my aerial, and I did, which was really exciting,” said Sophomore Bri Hyde. “Be more dedicated to what I have in the dance,” said Senior Xiomara Garcia. Their improvements and polishings to the routine are what make it look so pristine and award-winning at their competitions.
The team’s highlights for the competition included the hard routine and the high energy that was kept the whole time. They switched people around the week prior to the competition, so they had to be really prepared for the changes. “We had a pretty significant set of changes to the routine from last Monday until this week, and so keeping track of all of the new changes, the new formations, new counts, new parts…I feel like they really maintained calm focus at practice, and that allowed them to really focus in on the new things that we needed to do and they were super successful with it on Monday,” said Coach Koepke. They all seem to be close and supportive of each other, even when hard parts arise throughout. Junior Sofia Aleman agrees, and says, “Everyone stayed super consistent, positive and pushed through every challenge together, our energy, teamwork and love for what we do were definitely what made the difference.”
Overall, the Poms team made the school very proud of their newest win, we are excited to see where they will go next!
