Beloved language arts teacher and IB coordinator Ms. Anderson is retiring at the end of the school year after 32 years of teaching! With her strong sense of humor and her ability to connect to the students, Ms. Anderson is a favorite among students inside and outside of the classroom.
Throughout her 32 years of teaching, she has taught many language arts classes from from poetry to expository writing to concurrent enrollment to American Literature to IB Literature.
Four years into her teaching career, she came to LHS because it had just been recognized as an IB school and she wanted to teach IB Literature. In 2004, she became the IB Diploma Program coordinator and has been since.
“It is awesome being the coordinator because I can get to know our parents and teachers and building and not just the language arts department.”
Ms. Anderson is not just the IB coordinator at our school, but she is also regional Diploma Program Rep for all the IB schools in the states in our region (Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming). She has also gotten to go to many conferences and trainings for the IB program and got to meet people from all over the world!
You might know Ms. Anderson by her trying to recruit underclassmen to do the IB Diploma Program.
“It’s just been great to try to get IB going through the whole school, making it accessible to all kids, and you know encouraging kids to the diploma program, which is the cat’s meow.”
One of her favorite parts of LHS is the students. She loves talking to and getting to know the students and helping them reach their full potential. Her favorite memory from her time as a teacher is teaching the class of 2027 seminar.
When asked about her seminar, she said, “The students were so different from one another, with different backgrounds and experiences. In seminar we could laugh and talk about life. I came to know what everyone was interested in through the Personal Project process, which was also fun and exciting.”

As the end of the school year approaches, it is hard to say goodbye to our teachers who are leaving, but it is so exciting that they are starting a new chapter of their life. As Ms. Anderson will be missed dearly, she had an amazing career and the memories made will be held onto forever.
