Yesterday, October 14th, was the Littleton Girls Volleyball Senior Night, played against the Standley Lake Gators. LHS started the game with a beautiful introduction of all the seniors on the Varsity Team. They had each girl accompanied by two of the younger players as an escort, and shared each senior’s future dreams, favorite memories from their time on the team, and advice.
The support for the team was high, with an amazing turnout of families, friends, and even past team members who have since graduated.
The first game sadly didn’t begin with a strong start for our Varsity team; they struggled to gain a point, but after a brief huddle early on, they gained their first point. However, this was not enough to secure a win for the team, who unfortunately lost the first game with a score of 25-8.
Our Varsity players didn’t let this loss affect them, though, because they went into the second game fighting, with even more passion than before. This entire second game was a constant back and forth, going from a tied game to LHS coming ahead. Unfortunately, the fighting spirit of the Lions was no match for the Gators, who pulled ahead at the very end, ending the game with a loss of 25-19.
It seemed that these losses were getting in the girls’ heads, for the third and resulting final game began with a truly rough start; it seemed as though the Gators were getting point after point on the Lions. That doesn’t mean that our team didn’t fight hard, the cards just weren’t in our favor. Unfortunately, our Lions could not manage to catch up, resulting in a devastating loss of 25-5.
Due to the loss of all three games played, LHS sadly lost their Senior Night match. This doesn’t reflect on the skill of our players, for they put all of their effort into playing a truly entertaining game.
