The spookiest event of the Halloween season was at Littleton High School last Thursday: the Spooktacular film showing! The event not only included student made films, but also a costume contest to go along with the film contest. Here are the winners of the event:
3rd Place Film: The Meowing Man
This movie with a very interesting name was about a girl with a pet cat. She went about her night doing everything as normal. Made some tea, took a shower, read her book, and eventually fell asleep. Throughout this routine, we see traces of the Meowing Man, who, once she falls asleep, is the cause of her disappearance. The next scene is of someone watching the news of the incident. They walk into the next room, get attacked by the Meowing Man, and the film ends. The film had amazing photography and audio quality, and it was a really great idea that may have never been seen before.
2nd Place Film: The Creatures Came Crawling
The second place film started with the survivor of an incident speaking with a therapist about it. The survivor looked crazy, shaking and looking everywhere as they spoke, which can foreshadow as to what was coming later in the film. The rest of the movie was about a group of kids that were exploring an abandoned place, and one at a time they open a haunted book, causing them to become possessed and hunt after the next victim. They move frighteningly fast, and different copies of them appear behind every corner. This film had amazing creativity that added to the overall spooky theme. The creators also had a great use of lights and acting, that made it seem like it was all happening right then and there!
1st Place Film: Slash and Dash
The winner of the competition was Slash and Dash! This film followed a group of students trying to make it through the day in a school experiencing mysterious murders. More of this happened to the group until the one was left. The remaining student then found the penultimate victim, and the murderer came after her, wearing a rat mask. He left cheese with all their victims, so when she saw them, she went running. Eventually, her stupidity killed her, after thinking the rodent chasing after her with a knife was going to let her go. The murderer prevailed, and is shown leaving the corpse at the end of the movie. This film was funny, had great acting, and also had a twisted storyline that kept the audience on their feet. The filming was perfect for each scene and got the best angles, and the editing with filters and music made it even better.
Overall, all of the contestants of the movie contest submitted very entertaining movies. Costume-wise, the 3rd place winners were a trio of eighth grade girls dressed up as the White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts, and Alice, the 2nd place winner was a homemade peacock costume, and first place was a homemade Wall-E costume, complete with a cute plant. The movies and costumes alike were all so great and everyone should be proud! If you didn’t attend Spooktacular this year, you should definitely try to go next year and maybe even submit your own film. Happy Halloween!
