Strangely Controversial: Which color apple is best?

It’s finally Fall, and with it brings crunchy leaves, spooky decorations, and its fair share of crops. One of the crops popularly harvested at this time of year are apples. Apples come in many variations from Granny Smith to Fuji. Overall, there are three big differences between the fruits, their color. Red, green, and yellow are the most common traits that separate apples. Red apples are often sweet and crisp, yellow apples are sweet and a bit less crisp, and green apples are tart and crisp. Let’s see what the students think.

Coming in last place is yellow apples. Likely due to its lack in popularity, yellow apples took last with only one vote. When the options were stated, some people even said they didn’t know about yellow apples. Senior Corrina Gapter said, “They’re the sweetest.”

The runner up in the competition was green apples. With seven votes, green apples took second place with most people noting the bitter taste of them. Sophomore Rae Trujillo said, “Because they’re good. Because I prefer sweet over sweet.” Since others also feel this way, green apples are their pick since red and yellow apples are usually more sweet.

This means the winner is red apples. For many, having a sweet red apple is a very tasty snack. There are some bitter red apples too, but when surveyed, most remarked on the sweetness of the red apples. Sophomore Alexis Sanchez said, “I like red apples because they’re authentic, and I don’t really like green apples because they make it seem sour.” With a total of 22 votes, red apples were definitely the crowd favorite.

In the end, it all depends on personal preference. Some people like the sweet taste of red, while others like the bitter flavor of green apples. Either way, make sure to get your favorite while they are still in season. Happy snacking!
