Student-directed play Moon Over Buffalo leaves audience in hysterics

On Thursday, April 28th, two groups of students from the Acting Study II and Theater Company classes put on “Moon Over Buffalo”, co-directed by senior Grant Kinzie and junior Sophie Lisle.

The play followed a group of actors in a traveling troupe in Buffalo, New York, and the unfortunate series of events that occurs over the course of single day over a matinee performance.

First of all, this play was hilarious. Full of raunchy comedy that we haven’t seen from an LHS performance this year, this one-night performance was a pleasure to see and a shame if you missed it. Everyone in the cast made their own performances special and stood out in their own ways.

Kinzie and Lisle were specifically chosen to direct because, as a part of their class, they were asked to make notes on a play and how they would direct it.

“We had to talk about if you were to direct it, what would it be like, and everyone in the class voted on which one they wanted to do and ours got voted on,” said Lisle.

“It was just really fun to be able to put it together ourselves and have no adult directive, but it was just really fun to see it all come together. I think in the end it turned out pretty fun,” said Kinzie.

Kinzie and Virginia Frau acted alongside each other as ex-lovers Paul and Rosalind

When asked about what they might say to students who want to take Acting II or Theater Company, Lisle and Kinzie both said “go for it,” and encouraged anyone who wanted to try to direct a play themselves to do it.

Although the chance has passed for anyone else to see “Moon Over Buffalo”, with the next Acting II and Theater Company class will hopefully come a student-directed play that will be just as great.
