Success for Speech and Debate!

This past weekend, our Speech and Debate team competed in the state tournament in Pueblo. We had such amazing performances overall. The team placed 5th in Speech events, and 10th overall in Colorado!

In International Extemporaneous Speaking, Corrin Haggerty got 11th place, Baani Sandhu got 9th place, and Ava Graham got 4th place. Our very own student body president, Gavin Reidy, got 6th place in Humorous Interpretation, Abby Long and Laurel Moxon got 11th place in Duo Interpretation, Enzo Balderrama was an Octo-Finalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Abby Heider got 10th place in Informative Speaking.

When talking to junior Maddie Kusner, who competes in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, about what her favorite part of speech and debate is, Kusner responded, “I just enjoy learning more, and I enjoy being able to teach that to the rest of the team.”

Kusner was also asked about the challenges of participating in Speech and Debate. Kusner said, “Overall, maintaining confidence when things aren’t working out and in duo events, trusting your partner and just doing the best you can.” Kusner is an experienced debater and has been doing it for all 3 years of high school. She has enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

Overall, we are so proud of our Speech and Debate team, and can’t wait to see what they do next!
