The Special Olympics Youth Summit

The Special Olympics Youth Summit is where schools all around Colorado go and listen to ideas to help the improvement of their Unified programs and to get more involved with Special Olympics. The YAC staff helped set up for the Youth Summit, and they put Pom-Poms on the bleachers, set up water tables so people stay hydrated, set up games, and made sure everything’s good. We also welcomed the schools into the Youth Summit.

The Youth Summit was separated by high schools and middle schools. In the high school group, the Nuggets Announcer Kyle Speller spoke to get everyone hype and energized! We talked about Unified clubs from each school and the activities we do, like Unified Prom. We talked about how we planned all the stuff for Unified Prom, and we talked about what our Unified has done in the past year. Senior Molly B and I went to an Avalanche game to spread the word! We had a white banner so people can sign it, and we talked about that at the Youth Summit.

The theme at Youth Summit was Olympic Team Colorado because of future US games in 2026. There were many games people could play, like a Nintendo so people could play Mario Kart. One thing we didn’t  do was take a Youth Summit group picture this year. I’m really sad that was my last one because I’ve been on YAC for three years. It is the end of an era, and it was fun listening to everyone and meeting new people!
