LHS has a lot of new administration this year, including new Athletic Director Eric Martinez! Martinez comes to LHS with over 20 years of experience and many new ideas to make LHS a better place!
Martinez grew up in Pecos, New Mexico where he was one of 42 students in his graduating class at his school. During high school, Martinez ran Cross Country and Track and played for his school’s Basketball team. He was also involved in his school’s theater program doing both acting and crew.
“I grew up in a small town, and if it wasn’t for athletics, I don’t know if I would have graduated. I wasn’t a very good student. And the reason I wasn’t a good student was because I just didn’t really put the effort in. And it wasn’t until I kind of met some really important people in my life, a few teachers, a couple of coaches that really kind of guided me into like, you know what, it took a while for me to figure it out. But once I figured it out, it seemed like it was good,” said Martinez.
After high school, Martinez went to college at Metropolitan State University and got a degree in history and then got his teaching license. His first job was at Colorado’s Finest alternative high school where he taught social studies for two years. He then went over to Options Middle School and worked there for a few years until he became the assistant principal of Goddard Middle School. Before he came to LHS, Martinez was the assistant principal of Options High School.
“This will probably be my last stop here at Littleton High School before I decide to hang up the cleats and retire,” said Martinez.
Martinez has two daughters, his oldest Samara who graduated from Denver School of the Arts, and Eliza, who graduated from LHS in 2025. In his free-time, he likes to hike, bike, play basketball, and spend time with his daughters.
Since Martinez was part of the LHS community before he was named Athletic Director, he was able to see what Littleton is like as a parent and wants to take what he saw and improve that. He would specifically like to increase the support of LHS athletics and activities by the students, staff, and families by getting more people to come to games and participate.
“I really want to have a strong student body that goes to all events. Not just the games, but goes to the plays and goes to the choir concerts and those things like those that’s kind of what i’d like to build,” said Martinez on increasing support, “I’d like to build a culture where we’re all supporting each other even if we have different interests. I think it’s important that all the activities get to be represented.”
Martinez would also like to increase recognition in the school not only in activities and athletics, but in student recognition as well. He wants to do this by getting the word out via social media and the announcements.
“My hope is that we can get kids to buy-in and send us pictures when we can’t be at events so we can still promote it online,” said Martinez on how he wants to implement this.
By doing this, he is hoping to give recognition to what the students want recognized and what they want to see, making it more student-led.
Martinez is ready to have a great school year and is excited to see what Littleton is all about as Athletic Director!
