Sophomore Lucia Bovo qualifies for State Cross Country

Two weeks ago, Cross Country had their Regionals competition, where sophomore Lucia Bovo qualified for the State meet this past weekend. She was the only one that qualified for State at LHS, making it a proud achievement for her. Bovo started running in sixth grade, but said that it wasn’t her main sport. Her reasoning for coming back to it was that it provided a challenge for her.

“When I was playing soccer, I wasn’t really looking forward to games, but with Cross Country, there were just so many new meets and so many championship races that I could try to take part in,” said Bovo.

Along with State, Bovo has had other great achievements previously this season. Not only did she place fifth in several races, but she also achieved her own personal goal.

“I broke 20, which is something that I definitely didn’t think I would be able to do,” said Bovo.

As for the State competition, she was very excited to be running. At first, she said that she was very shocked about qualifying and said she was proud of the achievement. This is Bovo’s first time at State, so she’s ready to take on a new challenge and explore the environment.

“I’m looking forward to just getting to see a lot of my running friends, and be able to just participate in something like State,” said Bovo.

When Bovo is at the meets, she makes sure to wear her lucky sunglasses and special running shoes. She also is very particular about the snacks, her favorite for run days being Sour Patch Kids.

Overall, Bovo was really happy about going to State and finished 98th.

“Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone’s on their own track, so if you just keep going to practice and if you keep putting in the work and you trust in yourself, you can achieve more,” said Bovo.
