The IB Design Tech class at LHS always has a lot going on so this is what they are currently working on.
Design Tech is Taught by Mr. Jernigan or Mr. J and IB Design Tech has been operating for five years. Every year has something new and exciting that they are designing and achieving. They have been working with APH (American Printing House), school for the blind and various other industry partners for about two years.
They are currently working with APH and Link PD, an industrial design firm to put empathy first and to design products that help others. I asked what their latest projects have been. Jernigan shared “They just finished a 6 day designathon.” which is a project that has only been practiced in colleges until now. The students had to re-design or invent a product to help the blind or individuals with low vision which they then presented to APH. The students are learning how to design, make and finish products while working with industry partners.
We are very excited to see what else is to come from IB Design Tech and how they are using design to help others.
