On September 16, I went to a Colorado History Museum for a volunteer orientation, and what I learned is that museums really want to make the information present accessible and fun to students!
There were multiple volunteer positions catered primarily to students, the Destination volunteer position, a position for teaching kids about the old prairie part of Colorado, a volunteer position for neurodivergent kids, and a volunteer position for partnering with students during the school week. It might not seem like it, but museums dedicate a considerable effort to students.
The benefits of going to museums are also immense. You learn new information, you’re more well rounded, and places like the Colorado History Museum actively engage with students. Museums will oftentimes offer discounts or make it completely free for students or youth.
Museums want students, museums make it fun for students, and students actively gain from going to museums. It’s a perfect combination. So next time you plan an outing, consider making it a museum visit. It’ll be worth it.
