Almost all teenagers have tried looking for a job. Most of the time, part-time seasonal jobs are the first to come up, because they fit into our schedules better. But what about year-round jobs?
Often, year-round jobs are harder for students and young adults to balance with the rest of their life, like school, sports, and other activities. However, they offer consistency and growth in the workplace. Most seasonal jobs only offer part-time jobs, which are easier for teenagers to get since they have school and extra-curricular activities that keep them from getting a full-time job. These can range from holiday-oriented stores to swimming pools in the summer, jobs that are only available for a limited time.
I interviewed two people, one who has a year-round fast food job and one who has a seasonal retail job. Junior Katie Rae expressed their love of seasonal jobs. “I’m going to really miss my job at Spirit Halloween, but now I’m going to work at another cool seasonal job, which will be exciting!” Rae said.
Senior Vanessa Avalos has a restaurant job, and she likes how it keeps her occupied. “It can get boring, but it keeps me busy, so that’s nice.” Avalos said.
Even though seasonal jobs can be irritating when it comes to inconsistent pay when the season is over, they keep the job exciting and usually pay more. Year-round jobs are consistent, but can get boring and repetitive. Both are still great jobs, but I found that most teenagers would prefer to have a more flexible schedule at a seasonal job, giving time for them to be successful students and athletes.
