Lions Roar Now, a while back, had received a really cool object: a scrapbook of the 1956-1957 Lions Roar Now school year. It has cut outs of newspapers from that, chronicling a story of that year’s developments, as well as snapshots of that year’s pop culture and big moments. It provides invaluable insights into student life in the 1950’s, as well as looking at America at large then.
The first thing you’ll notice about the scrapbook is well, how crafty it is! Aged and yellowed newspaper cutouts are still tightly glued to the paper, and when you read the newspaper cutouts, the students back then were pretty skilled at writing, got to say. There’s a lot to be learned from this scrapbook as well, it’s documentation of student journalism back then, the events they went to, the clubs they participated in as well a lot of the happenings going on in the world at large or at school, like there’s not enough spirit for spirit week.. It has pages about the coolest new movies, the big time events for students, the departures and marriages of teachers at Littleton High School! It’s a fun and informative blast to the past!
One thing to be learned from these pages is that student new life hasn’t changed much since then. The article about prom is something that’d be written today as prom still occurs. The more things change, the more they stay the same, and it’s for student journalism apparently. Now, there’s been a couple changes since, fo example there’s no more physical newspaper, and I think showing them an article on AI would be very bewildering to them, but, honestly, they’d recognize themselves in our reporting nowadays, articles on what to wear, articles on the latest sporting events, although they might be disappointed that we don’t have an article answering questions on how to attract boys.
