Boys wrestling faces Heritage on senior night

On the evening of Wednesday, February 2nd, the boys’ wrestling team hosted Heritage in the North gym for senior night. This year, the team has three seniors, Disan Tenorio, Elias Garcia, and Zack Martinez.

The team put up a tough fight throughout the duals but fell short due to forfeits.

Senior Elias Garcia shares his thoughts on the team’s performance in the duals.

Senior Zack Martinez faces his opponent

“I’m pretty pleased with it because last year I’m pretty sure we did not put up that many points in our dual against Heritage. I’m pretty pleased with it, but we could have done better,” said Garcia.

“It doesn’t really matter if we lost, it’s just we were head to head this time, which means that our wrestling team is getting better.”

One of the main goals of the team this year was to bring in more spectators and supporters at competitions. Senior night accomplished this, with the home side stands packed with wrestling fans. Senior Disan Tenorio touches on this.

“Senior night was important because it helped bring our wrestling team to become more noticeable to everybody so more people would come. The goal was just to tell everyone else who we are,” said Tenorio.

Tenorio also discussed his individual progress over the season.

“I feel like I’ve done pretty good knowing what I’ve done in mostly less than a year. I’ve improved so much thanks to the coaches, they’ve been helping a lot with everything so I’m glad everything is going good.”

The team is finishing off their season strong, and they only have a couple of competitions left.

Congratulations seniors and good luck to the boys wrestling team in their league matches. Go Lions!
