The Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) was an incredible experience! The film was centered around the Manchester Hit Me Hard and Soft show and gave a special look at the behind the scenes in what makes it so magical. The film was in 3D as well! Here’s some insight into the film:

Billie Eilish came onto the stage with power and commanded the audience. She ran and bursted with energy across the stage, and even with the more mellow moments of the concert, she still had a vibrant presence, Billie’s voice was great, and her talent and performing ability is very apparent. Billie performed some older songs in her catalog, such as Ocean Eyes and Lovely, as well as lots of her newer works as well, such as Male Fantasy and Haley’s Comet. She also sang lots of songs from her newest album, Hit me Hard and Soft, such as Lunch and Skinny. The setlist was also packed with some of her most iconic songs, such as Bad Guy and Bury a Friend. No matter the song, Billie beamed with energy and control over her vocals. A brief appearance from Charlie XCX from the music video Guess came on the large TVs above stage, with Billie joining in for her part, and Billie brother, Finnease also joining on stage in the latter part of the film. There were flashing lights, color, and confetti that added electricity to the show, but Billie’s undeniable stage presence was the real eye candy, and without any back-up dancers and just minimal amount of people on stage, the whole concert was reliant on Billie and she succeeded.

Billie Eilish was very involved in lots of technical elements, and was also involved in directing the film. She worked hard to make sure that everything seen onstage (and unseen) was perfect to a tee. She picked all of the bright lights, costumes, and how she performed the shows. She quoted that she looks up to how male performers do their shows without flashy background dancers or props, but just the artist themself. Though this may be seen as boring or uninteresting, she made the show interesting by just being herself. When taking a look at what happens before the show starts, we saw an adorable element brought in for each performance, a dog room. Dogs from local shelters were brought in for each show for Eilish and everyone behind the scenes to play with for a mental rest when needed. Throughout the show, Billie had a handheld camera she could use to get her perspective for the film, shooting not only herself, but also the audience and their excitement.
One performance that really stood out was WILDFLOWER. This very emotional song contains heavy themes of sadness throughout, but feels so powerful when performed. Circling back to the tech elements, in this song she had many visuals of wildflowers growing and wilting as the song went on, emphasizing these themes. When cameras were shot back at the audience, many fans were caught crying through this performance, really showing how this song could have had an impact on these peoples’ lives.

The concert film was a real treat, with Billie’s natural talent being heightened by the great directing work and behind the scene moments. Any fan of Billie Eilish would thoroughly enjoy the performance, but even if you’re not a Billie fan, the energy and emotion cultivated during the duration of the film was ecstatic to watch, and Billie Eilish really solidified her position as a generational talent. The Hit Me Hard and Soft concert film was great and lots of fun!
