LHS Hosts a Bone Chilling Spooktacular

Last night, LHS had their annual Spooktacular, a viewing of short films made by the students. The films showcased the many talents of the students, from acting to filming to editing. But which film has come on top this year?

Kids discussing their plan to escape the Midnight Spooner

3rd Place: Midnight Spooner

In third place was the film “Midnight Spooner” directed by Sam Cron. The film followed a group of kids that were attacked by the Midnight Spooner, a notorious killer who attacks with nothing but a spoon. After the kids get into a fight with each other, one kid goes to sleep and gets attacked. Once the others find out, they end up trying to escape the Midnight Spooner. One by one they start to get killed by him until only one is left. She attacked the Midnight Spooner and was able to escape in time. The film included many funny moments including a little sheriff featured throughout and the Midnight Spooner being defeated with a rubber chicken, which makes it even better of a watch.

Dahlia and her friends going down to the lake

2nd Place: Lightning Struck the Lake

The runner-up was “Lightning Struck the Lake” directed by Merjen Melyayev. This film starts with a girl named Dahlia who is trying to write in her diary when her friends come over to hang out. They decide to go to a nearby river by her house in which they come across what looks to be a body in the lake. One of Dahlia’s friends decides to toss a rock at it, and everyone scolds him on account of the possibility of the body coming back to life. They disregard it after a while before going over to another person’s house to hang out. After a while, they hear a knock at the door and open it to find the remains of that body alive again and coming after them. They all try to attack it back, losing one of their friends along the way. In the end, Dahlia and her 2 other friends remained, with one in a coma. This film features some great comedic moments, as well as thrills throughout the entire film.

Students meeting up for their project

1st Place Class Made: Group Project

The winner of the class made films was Group Project made by Acting Study 1. This film was about a bunch of theater students who were working on a project together before they realized that their teacher was missing. They searched the theater before finding her dead in the lighting booth. They try to escape for help, but find they are locked in. They slowly start to lose more and more people to a murderer, until there is only one kid left. The killer realizes that he was killing people, as if he wasn’t in control of the situation. Emotions were high the entire time and it kept viewers on the edge of their seats.

Theater Club members making a toast

1st Place: A Portrayal of Violence

The winner of this year’s Spooktacular was “A Portrayal of Violence” directed by John Simpson. The film started with a freshman who wanted to join a club and decided on the Theater Club. When he goes, however, he finds very few members. They do their fair share of improv and acting before taking a toast with some sort of juice. Once the freshman drinks it, he falls asleep and ends up tied up on a table with the club members in capes around him. They end up killing him and taking his blood for their next toast. What was very interesting about this film was that it was fully monochrome until the end when only red was shown, which made it visually appealing. The overall mood was very calm and eerie, making it even scarier to watch what happens next.

Overall, all of the films were scary, comedic, and had so much talent poured into them!
