Best in Town: who makes the best pie in Littleton?

Though the fall season may divide the masses, there are many seasonal foods for students to look forward to. And although many people enjoy eating pie, there isn’t much of a consensus on where to get a good pie, or what kinds are the best. So, the Lions’ Roar Now staff set out to set the record straight: who serves the best pie in Littleton?

A piece of pie from Manna bakery

Manna Bakery:

Cherry (4/5): The crust is tender and buttery with no soggy bottom and flaked perfectly. The filling was sweet and tangy, a perfect balance between the two. The presentation wasn’t anything special or fancy, just good ol’ pie crust covering a filling.
Overall: Cherry pie should be considered a standard pie and the Manna bakery is a local place that gets it right. The pie is a perfect blend of tart and sweet and is reliably a great slice. Though it had a generic presentation it still managed to be an incredible pie that I would definitely recommend.

King Soopers:

Apple (3/5): The crust was okay but no incredible flavor coming from it, and the pie had a soggy bottom. The filling itself was generic, nothing worth praising but nothing worth hating either. The fruit inside was okay, but honestly a bit crunchy.

Pumpkin]2.5/5): Kind of cinnamon-heavy but otherwise pretty standard, might be better with toppings like chopped nuts or whipped cream.

Granny Scotts:

Apple (4/5): Everything was cooked well but the crust flavor left more to be desired. The apple filling was falling out of the pie crust. The flavor of the filling was good though had slightly too much cinnamon

Cherry (3/5): Everything was cooked well though the crust was not flaky. The cherry filling was very sour which is fine if that is what you like. The appearance was very pretty. I usually prefer sweeter pies, but this is great if you’re looking for something more tart

Blackberry (4/5): The crust for this pie was slightly burnt and you could definitely taste that. The pie itself was very pretty. The filling was perfectly intact within the crust. The flavor of the blackberries tasted slightly tart but all around this pie was good

Peach (2/5): The crust on this pie was overdone as was the fruit. It unfortunately had a stale taste to it. While this slice was definitely the prettiest I wish the taste was better

Chocolate cream(5/5): This was definitely the best pie we got. The crust was silky and the taste was sweet. The chocolate filling had the consistency of mousse which was really good. The added whipped cream on the top tied the whole slice together.

Overall: Granny Scott’s Bakery is a very cute restaurant just off Wadsworth. If pie isn’t your thing, don’t worry! There are lots of other options like pastries, sandwiches, and ice cream. The workers there are very friendly and very efficient.

Village Inn:

Apple (3.5/5): The apple pie was a solid all-around pie with a good silky crust and a good filling. The crust was slightly under-baked.

Berry (1/5): The berry pie seemed like a bunch of berries mashed up and thrown together into a pie. It didn’t really work well together and the texture was weird, with berry seeds throughout the pie. The crust was the only good part, which is generally not the way a quality piece of pie should be composed.

Chocolate silk (5/5): The chocolate silk pie was amazing and had great texture and flavor. The crust cut through the silkiness of the filling perfectly. Definitely the best pie out of the three from Village Inn.

Overall: Village Inn pies can be hit or miss, but their chocolate silk pie is a must-have for any time of the year.

Kneaders Bakery:

Raspberry cream (4 / 5): The crust was bland, and didn’t have much flavor, though it was flaky. The filling was sweet with a bit of tartness, overall flavorful, and with good consistency. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who doesn’t like seeds from the raspberries, making this a potentially polarizing menu item. The cream cheese portion of the pie filling was fresh, smooth, and sweet.

Overall: Out of all the pies tasted, the tart taste from the raspberry filling and sweetness from the cream cheese filling even each other out and are a good combo.

The best pie in the area:

Though many options throughout this cross-town taste test were delicious, the chocolate silk pies from Granny Scott’s Pie Shop and Village Inn won the title of Best Pie in Littleton. If chocolate isn’t your thing, we recommend the raspberry cream pie from Kneaders Bakery or the Cherry Pie from Manna Bakery.
