On Monday night, boys’ soccer celebrated their nine seniors: Hayden Habitz, Diego Lopez, Miguel Schlote, Matt Lieb, Reilly Reddy, Nolan Braband, Sam Miller, Liam Wolf, and Elliot Benson. The team faced Alameda and emerged victorious.

The evening began with some weather concerns and a thirty minute lightning delay. Luckily, the storm passed and both teams began to warm up. Then, there was a ceremony where each senior player was honored.

The game started off strong for the Lions, scoring the first two goals of the match. Alameda scored one goal right before half, testing the Lions. In the second half, the Lions scored two more goals, giving them a 4-1 win. Goals were scored by senior Miguel Scholte, senior Diego Lopez, and freshman Julian Lopez.

Senior Sam Miller had an assist leading up to the first goal. Finally, senior Diego Lopez scored an incredible goal from thirty yards out with eight minutes left in the game, ensuring a win for the Lions.

“The delay was a little rough on us, but a win is a win and it’s always fun to watch Miguel put goals in,” said senior captain Matt Lieb, a key defensive player throughout the match.

Lieb explains that support from the crowd made this game special for him.

“The fans were a huge part of it, it’s always great to have the support and bucket drums and the cheering,” said Lieb.

Lieb shares what he is proud of so far this season.

“The development of our team overall and our team chemistry. We see a lot of players out here that we haven’t seen before, so to get all these new guys out here and to build these bonds is awesome.”
