Boys volleyball takes tough loss to Cherry Creek

On Thursday, April 21, the boys’ district volleyball team took a hard loss to Cherry Creek. Going up against one of the best teams in the state, the boys were intimidated going in, but fought all the way through.

“We’ve definitely gotten a lot better, overall there’s been a lot of improvement made and so I’m pretty proud of that,” said junior Ian Babcock.

After tonight’s game, their record is now 9-9, and there is still more work to be done. Unfortunately, Littleton’s only varsity player, Ian Babcock, recently was injured and expressed his desire to play.

“I really wish I could play, I know a lot of the guys on the other teams, so it kind of sucked not to play,” said Babcock.

Despite this, many people in the crowd came from Littleton, Arapahoe and Heritage and were there to cheer on the whole team. Some players who stood out were Justin Kratzenstein, Andrew Copp, Mattias Servas Matthias, Tyson Haufschild and Tycen Vander Velde-Heit.

This is the inaugural boys’ volleyball season for LPS, and so this is the first year it’s been recognized as a sport by CHSAA. Babcock comments on this, stating how experience is a huge factor in making a team.

“The main thing is experience. A lot of things about volleyball come with experience and you kind of run around in circles when you first start playing. Once we have it, we’ll have a pretty solid team,” said Babcock.

Despite the loss, the boys on the team showed off their willingness to work hard and persevere through a game, and for the rest of the season we hope to see that work pay off on the court.

Their next home game is on Saturday, April 23rd at Arapahoe High School at 11:00 AM.
