Casino-themed homecoming dance unites students for a fun-filled night

Our homecoming week came to a close Friday night with the long-awaited homecoming dance. Students arrived in their best semi-formal attire to dance, sing, socialize, and have fun with friends.

Students dance under colorful lights in the gym

The south gym was decorated in casino theme, with giant playing cards on the wall and blow up dice for students to play with. Bright, colorful lights shined overhead. Card games and refreshments were provided in the cafeteria. The courtyard was also open to students who wanted to hang out under the night sky and get some fresh air.

Attire was fairly typical, with most people wearing mini-dresses and suits or a nice shirt with dress pants. Many people opted for a sparkly look with sequins and bright colors, while others wore muted, neutral colors. Rompers were a popular choice for students who wanted a more comfortable alternative to a dress. Boots were commonplace footwear this year, with many students wearing cowboy boots and combat boots.

Students gathered in the cafeteria to socialize with friends, get refreshments, and play card games.

Song choices included many popular sing-along songs, such as Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus and Firework by Katy Perry. Upbeat songs for dancing were also included, like multiple songs by Pitbull and Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

The dance was a huge success, with an impressive turnout; the dance floor was packed with students eager to indulge in the festivities. The dance had a high approval rating as well; no student was left bored.

“My favorite part of the dance itself was just dancing, with my friends and with random people, and moshing until it was really hot,” said senior Avery Schwartz, sharing what she enjoyed about the dance.

Student council did an incredible job at planning and executing the dance, as well as staff who provided refreshments and ensured that everything ran smoothly. The homecoming dance brought the students of LHS together as they danced the night away, vegas-style.
