Girls’ basketball crushes Pomona on senior night

Last night, February 8th, the girls’ basketball team celebrated their senior night. The team had three seniors this year, Emili Romero, Katherine McGarrity, and Dalana Jakovljevic. The final score was 60-29, with Littleton securing the win. Though this was the team’s last home game, their season is far from over. With an overall record of 15 wins to 5 losses and a 2nd-place ranking in the Jeffco league, they’ll be heading to playoffs in the coming weeks.

The evening started with a recognition ceremony for the three seniors. They were given flowers and walked down the gym while the crowd cheered.

McGarrity and Jakovljevic lead the team as captains this year.

“Personally, I’ve found myself to be more of a leader this year, maybe not as much with scoring because we have a bunch of scorers in the starting five and they’re all really great, but on defense, I think I have improved a lot and also as a leader as a whole,” said McGarrity.

Though it’s difficult to pinpoint one distinct best moment in such a successful season, McGarrity shares her thoughts on what she thinks it was.

Emili Romero high-fives her teammates

“Beating green mountain by five in a comeback was probably the best home game and the best moment overall,” said McGarrity.

Another senior, Dalana Jakovljevic, was one of the six seniors who signed to play sports in college. After being one of the team’s top point scorers this season, she will be attending Snow College in the fall.

Senior Emili Romero shares her thoughts on the season.

“I think over the season a lot of people have grown a lot in their talent and skills. As a team, I think we’ve started to communicate a lot better with each other on the court. We just play as a family always,” said Romero.

“I think we’re really positive and we support each other no matter what if you’re down on yourself we know that the rest of the team is behind you and supporting you,” said McGarrity, explaining the culture of the team.

The team hopes to go far in the playoffs and their main goal is to make it to the final eight or further. Good luck to girls’ basketball as they continue their journey!
