Girls’ basketball wins first home game against Sand Creek

Senior Penny Urqhart pushes through the crowd

Last night, December 6th, LHS girls’ basketball played Sand Creek in their first home game of the season. The team performed well, ending the game in a 75-8 victory. Seniors Penny Urquhart and Jacy Chandler proved to be the stars of the game, scoring the majority of the points for the Lions.

The team had a strong start on both offense and defense, scoring 23 points and not allowing Sand Creek to score a single point in the entire first quarter. This competitive energy persisted throughout the game as the Lions continued to rack up more points.

After facing tough competition during their first tournament, this win was a confidence-booster for the team.

“I think this is a great start to our season and it’s going to be good for us going forward and give us some confidence,” said senior Chandler Gleim.

Many younger players contributed greatly to the win as well, including junior Mariah Stitt, junior Eliza Martinez, sophomore Erica Levene, and sophomore Emma Bird.

After the team’s successful season last year, many players were excited to return and play for the school again.

“I was excited because it was the first home game, I was excited just to be here,” said senior Jacy Chandler.

Gleim shares her feelings about where the team’s future is headed.

“I’m excited to see where we’re going to go. We have a lot of potential as a team so I’m excited to see how some of the tougher games are going to treat us and how we react.”
