Girls’ volleyball battles hard against Denver North

On Friday night, girls’ volleyball faced tough competition from Denver North. The night began with multiskilled senior player Eliza Neff performing the national anthem. Then, a few of the players threw girls’ volleyball merchandise out into the student section as the team roster was being announced.

Senior captain Angelina Holm and junior Sarah Lamey jump for a block.

The first set started well for the Lions, ahead by four points and having much success. However, Denver North came back and ended up winning the first set as well as the second.

In the third set, the Lions were behind, but began to come back quickly and soon were tied in points with Denver North. However, Denver North regained the lead and the third set resulted in a loss for LHS as well.

Regardless of the loss, the Lions fought hard against a very tough opponent and had numerous strong moments, like many blocks by senior captain Angelina Holm, kills from senior captain Brooke Holman, assists from senior captain Sunna O’Connor, digs from sophomore Camryn Alfstad, and serves from every member of the team.

Senior Sophie Valentine prepares to serve the ball.

“It was a little bit disappointing, but I think we fought hard. It definitely wasn’t our best game but I think that it’s still the beginning of the season and by the end we’ll definitely be crushing it. I’m very proud of our hustle and when we did fight back, it was impressive,” said senior captain Brooke Holman, sharing her thoughts about the game.

Senior captain Angelina Holm describes what she enjoys about leading the girls’ volleyball team.

“I like that we’re really one family as a program and as our team. We all really support each other for all of our practices and games and everything like that.”

The team’s next home game is on September 26th against Conifer. Come out and support girls’ volleyball!
