Girls volleyball defeats Thornton, reflects on season

Last night, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team beat Thornton High School in a 3-0 victory. This win puts the team in second place in the 4A Jeffco League, tied with three other schools.

“We were all expecting us to win,” said freshman Camryn Alfstad. “We came in with a positive attitude and ready to go!”

Indeed, the girls appeared to maintain a level of comfort with one another, communicating effectively and lifting each other up throughout the game.

“As of right now we are 4-2 and we are really starting to trust each other and play together as a team,” said Alfstad.

Although the league games won’t start until next week, the team has proven itself a formidable opponent. Further, each player contributes wholly to the team’s overall success.

“I would say that Nora played really great,” said senior Olivia Lingo. “As a team we did really good at communicating and we were scrappy.”

Several other players have played exceptionally well, including junior Brooke Holman who has the overall highest kill count on the team, hitting percentage, and aces. Jade Tenorio is leading in blocking, the aforementioned Camryn Alfstad in digs and receptions, and Jo Jones in assists.

Off the court, the players have participated in team spirit days, promoting school spirit and unification behind a common goal; to take on the league with ferocity and poise.

“Next week we start league play and I expect the competition to be a bit harder, but I think we’ve worked really hard this season and should be able to hold in with some of the better teams and possibly win,” said Lingo.

The team’s next home game will be on Thursday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm against Evergreen High School.
