Girls’ volleyball pummels Standley Lake in last home game of season

Senior volleyball players line up as they are celebrated on the last home game of the season

The girls’ volleyball team took home a landslide victory of 3-0 against Standley Lake on Tuesday, October 26th. This game was the last home game of the season and was also a way to honor the seniors on the team. Seniors include Mallory Coughlin, Makenna Lee, Ava El-Jammal, Ruby Seacrest, KC Lynch, Kayleigh Irwin, Julia Dingle, Malea Jones and Iris Lotti.

“We had a goal of statistically and mentally being in the positive, and so far we’re achieving it. I’m so grateful to get to spend the season with these girls I’ve been playing with for the last four years and it’s been so enjoyable,” said Lynch.

All of the seniors got an opportunity to start, and the crowd at this game also helped the energy in the North Gym stay high. Although the girls kept it close in the first game, winning 25-23, they widened the gap for the following games with scores of 25-15 and 25-9. After this game, the girls have a record of 10-8.

“I feel overjoyed because I feel like all of our work this season has been worth it to win against Standley Lake,” said Lee.

The girls came off of a win against Thornton on Wednesday and have had a streak of home games and wins. Although this was the last home game of the season, the girls still have a few more games before they wrap everything up.

“I’m really upset that this is my last time playing a game in the North Gym,” said El-Jammal, a statement shared by Lynch and Dingle.

Even though this is the last Lions game for the volleyball seniors, many of them plan to continue playing after high school, even if it is just an intramural team at their college or university.

Their next game is against D’Evelyn on Thursday, October 28th before they close out the season with a tournament on Saturday, October 30th.
