Homecoming pep assembly and carnival hype up the student body

Teachers participated in a hula-hooping game, an activity loved by Mr. Wentz.

On Thursday afternoon, classes ended early so that students could attend the pep assembly preceding many other fun after-school activities. The North gym was an ocean of purple and gold, as students were wearing their class t-shirts and seniors wore senior overalls.

Senior fall athletes play tug-o-war.

The pep assembly began with choir members singing the national anthem, conducted by Mrs. Taylor.

Then, students participated in many cheers, including classics like the “do it” cheer and three new ones proposed by student council: the numbers cheer, party cheer, and the “morado” and “oro” cheer.

Students participated in many games as well. Tug-o-war was a great way for senior fall athletes to get involved in the action down on the floor. Then, a pie eating contest had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Both students and teachers participated in a hula-hooping game dedicated to Mr. Wentz. Hula-hoops were then used again in another game where students attempted to get a beach ball across the crowd and through the hoop for a point.

As usual, each class participated in their class sing-along as well as singing the fight song.

Then, the moment everyone had been waiting for: announcements of homecoming royalty! Freshman, sophomore, and junior royalty were brought out in front of the crowd, as well as the senior nominees for king and queen.

After the rowdiness of the pep assembly, students relocated outside to take part in the carnival. The carnival included stands with fun activities made by numerous different clubs, as well as a cotton candy stand and snack station.

After an hour of activities outside, the tailgate began where students could grab a bite to eat before the homecoming football game.
