Impressive turnout at Flyin’ Lion 5k is a great start to Homecoming Week

On Sunday, September 17, the Flyin’ Lion 5k race took place in the area surrounding Littleton High School. Dozens of runners showed up to participate in the fundraiser.

The turnout was impressive— many members of the LHS community all showed up to participate, including students, faculty, parents, alumni, and even parents of alumni. People of all ages came to run the course, demonstrating the strength of our community and long-lasting connections created in our school. Ed King, the father of a LHS graduate from 15 years prior was there to participate. When asked about his feelings regarding the run, he had nothing but good things to say.

“I’m excited. I come back and do it every year. This is the third or fourth time I’ve done it.” King said.

The three mile course began in the LPS stadium. From there, the runners ran up Littleton Boulevard, scaled the hill on Washington street, and ran alongside a section of the Highline Canal. Then, the runners turned around and ran back, ending again in our stadium.

The competition for the king and queen of the hill titles took place on the hill on Washington street. The first boy and first girl to reach the top of the steep hill were named the king and queen, respectively. The king ended up being senior cross country team member Dan Grady, and the queen was junior cross country team member Tatum Pratt. Both winners were rewarded for their victories.

“I think it’s a great way to rally everyone and get the school and community together. I love this run. It feels a lot shorter than a 5k,” said Pratt.

Pratt explains that the course is nothing new to members of the cross country team.

“It was pretty chill. We run this course at practice, so it was pretty nice,” said Pratt.

We thank the Littleton High School community for the impressive turnout and the funds raised through the 5k. The long-lasting connections created in our school are visible in the people who are there supporting us. Everyone who showed up had a fun time; we can’t wait for next year’s run.
