Jack Finch places fourth at the State Golf Tournament

Congratulations to Jack Finch for his performance at the Boy’s State Golf Tournament. The Boy’s State Golf Tournament took place on Monday and Tuesday, at the Bridges in Montrose.

Senior Jack Finch made it to State this year. He had a standout performance at this tournament, and scored 143 points, finishing in 4th place. He was only 4 shots away from first. This was the best performance at state by a LHS golfer in over 25 years.

Jack Finch explains his preparations for the state tournament.

“I had two practice rounds to prepare, and my goal was to finish top ten at the state tournament.”

Jack achieved this goal and went the extra mile by placing in the top four. The 2023 golf team performed very well this season, and is lead by Mr. Prince who is proud of the season the golf team had.

“Our season was a success, we had a bunch of seniors and so they kind of led us and we had a bunch of younger kids. We finished sixth in Jeffco in our league and we almost placed two in state. Jack was third place in all of Jefferson county. Going to state is always a good thing and finishing high is always a success.”

Mr. Prince also mentions the team’s greatest accomplishments this season.

“Number one would be building strength and numbers like adding players onto the team. Secondly would be Jack’s performance yesterday.  Jack went to state and he shot two of his lowest scores he has had all year. It was a lot of fun to watch him place as well, he had this big crowd around him and got a medal from CHSAA. It was fun to see a player do that well amongst such big competition.”

Next year, Mr. Prince hopes to build on the golf team’s accomplishments from this season.

“We are going to be a young team so we will try to improve quickly. Hopefully our new guys step up,” says Mr. Prince.

For students interested in Boy’s Golf, the season starts in August, so make sure to come out and participate next year!
