Littleton students at TSA state

LHS students excel at TSA state conference

Littleton’s Technology Student Association (TSA) participated in the state conference at the Marriott in DTC at the end of February, with LHS students taking home nine awards across four different events.

Five students took second place in the Silent Movie event—freshman Autumn Fahn, junior Vince Lucas, freshman Este Norlander, junior Ben Ryan, and junior Caleb Schmitz

Once again, junior Ben Ryan finished in second for the Rat Trap Drag Race event, as well as sophomore Evan Siler.

Junior Vinny Anderson finished second in Photographic Technology, and freshman Jenna Elequist finished third in the Fore Mini Golf Course event.

Anderson notes that his favorite part of the conference was “being able to watch the sunrises and pursue some of my more niche interests.”

His event, Photographic Technology, challenges students to create a photographic portfolio representing the year’s theme. This year, the theme calls on students to incorporate elements of nature in their portfolios.

Anderson will not be attending the national conference, which is held in Louisville, KY at the end of June. He recalls that the state conference was stressful at times, but doesn’t want this to hold people back from joining TSA.

“35% of the judges just didn’t show up. The state advisors and the state officers tried the best they could to respond, but they had a lot of expectations put on them for managing thousands of middle and high school kids,” said Anderson.

Regarding the challenges at state, Mr. Wilkins, one of the advisors, hopes and believes that next year’s conference will run more smoothly.

“We got a new TSA state president last year, and they’ve been doing a lot of the work on their own. We already are having discussions about how to fix things for next year,” said Wilkins.

“This is the first time I’ve seen it be like this,” said Wilkins. “TSA teaches a lot of good skills surrounding work ethic and personal accountability.”

Despite a rocky state conference, all of Littleton’s TSA members can be proud of their great performance at state.
