LPS selects Dr. Todd Lambert as next superintendent

After a months-long selection process, Littleton Public Schools has selected Dr. Todd Lambert as the superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year. The process began in the fall and by the start of this year, the committee had narrowed it down to three candidates.

Dr. Douglas VanderJagt withdrew his name from the list of finalists on February 1 due to “personal reasons”, leaving two candidates left.

Dr. Todd Lambert and Melissa Cooper answered questions from the community during sessions in early February, giving students, staff, and parents a chance to learn about the finalists.

Closed interview sessions took place on February 22, with parents, employees, and administrators providing input on the best candidate for the job.

The final decision was made in a 5-0 vote by the LPS Board of Education on February 23, during their regularly scheduled board meeting. This was earlier than anticipated, displaying a strong consensus among the board.

Dr. Todd Lambert is currently the superintendent for the Warrick County School Corporation in Boonville, Indiana. Previously, he served as the assistant superintendent for Poudre School District in Fort Collins.

As expressed during his community information session, Lambert described himself as a “student-oriented leader” who values visiting classrooms, interacting with students, and being involved in the community.

He identified many strengths in the district, but also expressed concern about mental health, declining enrollment, and aging buildings. Lambert noted that he is looking for his final job, a place where he can settle down for his last years before retirement.

Current superintendent Brian Ewert will be wrapping up 37 years of working in public education as the school year winds down. Lambert will officially begin his role as the new superintendent on July 1, 2023.
